According to an article, the first tip noted at the Grammys is to “Thank the people on the ground floor.” Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, winners for Best New Artist, exemplified this by extending their utmost gratitude to their fans and “organic word of mouth.” They made their record independently, without a record label and they’re extremely grateful for all the support. Young independent artists can learn a lot from the duo, paving the way for similar artists to get noticed.
The second tip is to throw in some humor when appropriate. After winning Best Rap Collaboration, Jay Z said he now has a gold sippy cup for his son to drink out of. It was a slight remark that got the crowd laughing and engaged.
The third engaging act is to open your speech up with a curve ball. Neil Patrick Harris said hi to the crowd by saying “Bonjour, People Of Earth!” It is a bit witty and not normal to start off your address in this matter, so it keeps the crowd honest and into the speech from the start.
The Grammys provide a grand stage for people addressing audiences. It is interesting to see how people differentiate themselves from others over the course of the night. You never know what to expect and that is what makes the event so exciting!
