A recent article from Refinery29 talks about a new position open at Facebook for a Political Outreach Manager. As stated on the websites, the job is “to connect with politicians and political figures and instruct them on how to best utilize their Instagram accounts.”
I think it is interesting to see this new job opening because it reflects just how important social media can be, especially for a politician. If you post relevant and interesting things about yourself or your career, people will take notice and follow you. Social media is a very powerful tool that allows people to connect virtually anywhere at anytime. It would be silly for people to not take advantage of it. I think it is great that Instagram recognizes the need for politicians to use their service and I think it is even greater that they want to empower people to better promote their personal agendas.
More often than not, high profile celebrities, influencers or politicians have personal social media accounts set up, but they have other people handling the accounts. Social media is suppose to be about the individual and should come from them accurately. I think it is more effective and more interesting for followers if they know that the person tweeting or sharing photos is actually the person they claim to be.
Instagram is just another great social media tool that politicians should be utilizing on a daily basis. With over 130 million active monthly users, people are sure to be listening and taking heed to what you share.
