Lately on his 77 WABC Radio show out of New York City, host Dominic Carter has had an eye-opening experience
as it relates to the plight of senior citizens, and of children. Two groups that need the rest of us in society to advocate for
them. For Seniors, they are being devastated with the Food Stamp Pandemic increase now gone, and Children are always vulnerable, with issues of Childhood Sexual Abuse, and kids being assaulted in other ways. It’s one of the main reasons why Dominic Carter speaks at Child Advocacy Centers around the Country and in Canada. This is the Podcast Dominic did on these issues.
Some Senior Citizens are still married, but Dominic found this article in particular devastating. It was so hurtful for Dominic, that he had to initially set the article down, and then come back to read it a second time. It’s about how if a senior citizen requires Medicaid to pay for nursing home care, their Social Security Check, Pension, whatever they may own is completely taken away to help pay for their care, and in some states, the stipend they are allowed is only $30.00 a month. This is shameful. The title of the article is: In nursing homes, impoverished live final days on pennies – WHYY
Here is a quote from the article:
For U.S. nursing home residents receiving Medicaid, all income is garnished and the person is left to rely on a small subsidy known as a personal needs allowance. The federal government hasn’t changed the minimum rate, $30 monthly, since 1987. Pennsylvania’s allowance is $45.
